Are you guys planning on doing a headline run of the UK this year? Also, The Upsides was my favourite record from last year and I am really excited to hear the new stuff! Hope all is well dude.
As of now we just have the Kerrang tour booked for February but I don’t know what the rest of the year is looking like for the UK. Would love to come back. Thanks, man! I’m very excited about the new album.
Hey man! Tattoo dude here again. I'm actually doing an article on the music industry's decline and uprise (in some senses) for my high school's newspaper, and it'd be an honor to get your opinion, now that you guys are on a bigger label, on how the industry is doing as a whole, basically the pros and cons as a struggling band to get heard while being able to make a living. Any and all information is extremely helpful, and when it's published, I'll send you over an online .PDF version of the story!
Hit me up on facebook and send me a message. Things are gonna get busy for me in the studio the next few days but I’ll try to help ya out. www.facebook.com/mattbraschtwy
I went to see Rust Belt Lights in Long Beach, CA last night. They were so good live. If you haven’t checked them out, please do so. They are on tour right now for the next month or 2 so catch them on tour.
Hey, I'm getting 'Head Above Water' tattooed on my lower-right calf with your guys bird logo right above it. This is going to be my only tattoo, as it means so much to me & my youth. Is there any possible way you could send me a bigger version of the logo rather than me printing out a picture of the hoodie? Thanks so much, dude, looking forward to the new album.
That is so rad! I’m so happy to hear that you enjoy the band and it means a lot to you and your youth. I actually got a tattoo of our first album artwork for the same reason. I actually don’t have the logo in my possession. I’m sorry, man. Hit me up in a couple days. I’ll see if I can scrounge something up.
Two and a half days and five packs of guitar strings later, I finished my guitar tracks on Friday.
Soupy and Casey are now trading back and forth on tracking. So excited to hear the tracks with more things on them!
Today I went for a run for the first time in a while and it was the most awful thing ever. I thought I was going to puke. John dusted me to the beach. John and I are going to get some Thai food in a little bit. I can’t wait.
January 15, 2011 @ 7:44PM in South CA - Casey and Nick nerding out on their computers in the lounge of the studio.
January 18, 2011 @ 12:06AM in Hollywood, CA - Saw Steel Panther at the House of Blues for Soupy’s birthday. They were wildly offensive and I love every minute of it. Saw so many boobs. Got to see most of the Hopeless Records staff as well as a couple of the Tonight Alive boys. At one point Brooke Hogan was standing directly in front of me. Didn’t realize she was so tall. She had to be 6’2” easily.
January 19, 2011 @ 1:48PM in south CA - Some of the heads in the control room that we have available to use.
January 19, 2011 @ 4:17PM in south CA. Some more heads to use….
I hate how people bitch and moan about where you play like it is your fault. Do they not understand what booking agents do? Sorry, I'm just angry. Take care of my Daddy John Ryan while in CA. LI love going out to you guys.
No worries, man. I know that some people don’t understand how booking tours works and all that stuff. I don’t mind explaining it. It does make me happy that people want us to come to their town.
Papa bear JJRjr. is actually taking care of us. My love is sent back to LI.
Hey dude. Super bummed that neither of the upcoming TWY tours are coming to the Pacific North West. Hopefully I'll be in Bakersfield for the tour with Living With Lions and Fireworks. But seriously, plan more tours into the PNW!
We are trying to play as many places as we possibly can. We try to give as many places as much love as possible. We are only one band. Can’t be everywhere at once. We will be on the road all year.
After much hard work from Kennedy the drum tracks are now complete. I start recording guitar tracks tomorrow!
Today I went to the beach and enjoyed the sun while I talked on my phone for a while. I then went out to eat at Mit Asie with John and Jill. That place has such amazing vegetarian food. I think we are going to have an ice cream sundae party tonight! So excited!
I just checked the website for Chain Reaction and it says on April 23rd that Fireworks, Such Gold, Make Do And Mend, Living With Lions, and Goldenstate Kings are playing. I was wondering if you guys are going to be playing this show because it's sort of in the middle of the Manscout Jamboree tour. I really hope you guys play this show.
I don’t think we are playing that one. I could however be wrong.
Yesterday we got all the drum tones and got everyone set up to track scratch tracks along with Kennedy. It was a long day but in the end it will pay off for sure. The drum tones sound out of this world good. So excited!

Me making a stupid face
Ross Robinson stopped by the studio to drop off a few cymbals. For all that don’t know who he is, he’s considered the “Godfather of Nu Metal.”He has produced/work on some amazing projects with artists such as Korn, At the Drive-In, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, Vanilla Ice, The Cure, and Glassjaw. It was awesome to be able to shake his hand.
Pre-production is complete. We loaded all of our equipment into the studio. Currently Steve is tuning, placing microphones, and getting drum tones with Kennedy. Hopefully we will get a little bit of tracking done today.
Playing Wii Bowling in the hang out room in the studio.
On an unrelated note I got to meet Chris Hornbrook, the drummer of Poison the Well, Greg Puciato, the singer of The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Ben Weinman, guitarist of The Dillinger Escape Plan within the past 2 days. California is the greatest. I want to live here so bad.
The second day of pre-production went even better than the first. The first half of the record is complete as far as songs go and I love the way it sounds. We are leaving in an hour to go practice and work with Steve on pre-production.
First day of pre-production with Steve went great. We are definitely off to a good start and hopefully today was a good indicator of the vibe for the rest of the process. After 6 hours of work we went to Dave Shapiro and Eric Tobin’s house for a BBQ. Some of our family at Hopeless Records and Tonight Alive were there. The food was great. Apparently Tobin is a master chef?
Thinking about going skydiving on Sunday with some friends. Is $200 worth it?
Congrats stephenmkong.tumblr.com. You are my 600th follower.
You don't have to post this, but you can answer this in my Ask and I promise on my life and ... this blog? that I won't post it.
Is the TWY/Living With Lions/Make Do and Mend/Such Gold tour rumor true?
I honestly can’t say who we are touring with in the future but i think we will be announcing some tours soon. Keep checking www.myspace.com/thewonderyears for updates.
the show at chain tonight was spectacular. thank you guys for everything. for playing the album in full, for always thinking of your west coast fans, and for writing an album ive connected to more than any album in a long long time.
Thank you for coming. We had the best time. Thanks for the kind words and we will definitely see you next time!
1) We started off our day meeting Forrest Kline of Hellogoodbye. He gave us a few records and some odds and ends as gifts. What a sweet dude.
2) We moved into our new house in CA. It is absolutely unreal and the landlords rule. They are an older retired couple and they seem very hip and in with the times. I couldn’t be happier. The next month is going to be great.
3) I got to see my great friends in Tonight Alive and This Time Next Year at the show. They both played great. Hopefully I will be seeing a lot of those bands since we are all recording records within a 1 hour radius.
4) Hopeless took us out to dinner and we caught up with our family there.
5) At the show I briefly met Matt Stawski who directed the music video “Fuck You” for Cee-Low Green. The man has amazing talent.
6) The drummer for Reel Big Fish and Mark Trombino were apparently at the show but unfortunately I did not have the chance to meet them.
7) Our set at the show went very well but was seriously the hottest show I’ve ever played. I could not breathe on stage and I was a puddle by the end of the second song. Thanks everyone for going off though. You made it a very memorable show.
9) Drove back to the house and watched the beginning of Last Action Hero with Johnny, Josh, Kennedy, and Casey. I fell asleep about 30 minutes in (surprise surprise).
The journey from coast to coast has been pretty damn good so far. We have spent like 35 hours in the van now and have like 20 to go or something along those lines. I have been spending all of my time driving, reading Eric Clapton’s autobiography, playing solitare on my iPod, listening to music, watching movies and eating. Though it is a little boring the drive is not nearly as painful as I thought it would be. We drive all day tomorrow.
The show last night was great. I had a good vibe for the entire set which rarely ever happens. I couldn’t have been happier. After the show we went to buffalo wild wings and ate way too much. They had 50 cent wings and dollar well drinks so I fully took advantage of the situation. I had 18 wings (honey bbq, mild, and oriental) and 2 double rum and cokes. My bill was like 14 bucks. What a bargain!
I am super excited for Friday. We move into our house in Hunnington Beach and play a sold out show at the Chain Reaction at night. We start pre-production on the new record on Saturday! So many exciting things coming up.
